The begining of a "Zombie Apocalypse" story.
Ring ring. Ring ring.
“Hello?”
“Jess, I’m on the bus.”
“Okay, let’s meet in front of McDonalds?”
“Great! See ya.”
I put my mobile phone back on my bed and sat on the floor, facing some of my tiny metal balls. I raised my right hand and put my palm over the balls.
Here we go.I concentrated on the metal marbles and began to breathe slowly.
Come on, Jess. You can do it.My energy was flowing through my body, gradually getting to the top of my fingers. I had to concentrate more.
Almost.I closed my eyes. I was so close to improving my skills. If I could just manage to ignore everything and focus on the round metal pellets. Just a little bit.
The sound of the balls which were slightly hitting eachother filled me with excitement, even though I’ve made them move many times before. But this time I knew … that day was the day I would master my telekinetic powers. I had been trying since I was six or seven years old. For ten years! The balls started bumping into eachother more violently. I heard that they left the ground and slowly started to levitate in the air. I smiled.
Beep beep.
The sound of a car horn from outside the opened window in my room made me jump. As I opened my eyes, the small metal balls loudly fell on the floor and rolled away in different directions. I ragefully stood up and slammed the window door, making the glass shake.
I was so close!I took a deep breath and tried to calm down. I gathered the metal marbles and put them in a small bag which I attached to my narrow belt. I always took one or two bags of marbles with me whenever I went out. I thought that they would be useful some day. They had never been, though. But soon, they would be the only thing that could save me.
I grabbed my mobile phone. It said it was 1:24PM.
Darn it! I’ll be late.I quickly put on my white shirt, rolled my sleeves up and went in front of the mirror which was glued to the door. My brown skinny jeans didn’t really look good with my white flats so I rolled their legs up to my knees. It looked much better now. I had braided my hair earlier the same day. I was ready to leave my apartment.
My phone started ringing again. It was the alarm for 1:25PM.
I’m going to be late for sure! I opened the door, grabbed my keys, locked the door and quickly rushed down the stairs. I left the building.
I was almost near McDonalds.
Oh, God! Katie will get mad. I should have left earlier. Katie was a friend of mine. We used to go out together and do stuff. She was really friendly and funny. Sometimes she got a little bossy and rather rude, but that’s what I liked about her. She was really famous at her school, everybody liked her. Well, almost everybody.
I heard some sirens. They were far away, but were approaching really fast. I turned my head to check where the sounds were coming from when I saw the people I never wished to see. Never.
Oh, boy.I turned around to cross the street. Just as I faced the road, an ambulance furiously drove right in front of me and made the muddy water on the street, which appeared from God knows where, splash and fall on my clothes.
“Isn’t this Jess?”
“Still with that disgusting sense of fashion. If I can call that fashionable.”
These two valley girls were Amanda and Linda. They were both blonde, Amanda’s hair was darker, her eyes were brown. Linda’s were bright blue. The ugly bright blue, not the beautiful one. These bimbos always made fun of people who weren’t as “perfect” as them. Oh well, rich spoiled girls are and always will be like that. Oh, and they hated Katie too. But we didn’t care, we loved the way they failed at everything. It was both pathetic and hilarious.
“Ew, is that mud?” asked one of the brainless scarecrows and made a disgusted face.
“Why didn’t that ambulance run over me?” I sighed.
“Probably bad karma, dear,” said Amanda and laughed.
“Like when I met you.”
“Yeah,” yelled the other airhead and smiled rudely. “Wait, I don’t get it.”
“Ugh, blondes.” I turned around again and crossed the street. I could hear the morons talking behind me and, of course, fake-laughing. I ignored them and headed to a small shop to buy a bottle of mineral water.
I went in the shop. I could hear a radio working. There was a fridge next to the door, filled with fizzy drinks. Next to it, there was a stand with magazines and some sweets. I looked to the right part of the store. There were many kinds of sausages and salami. I looked at the shop assistant and asked her where the water bottles were. She crouched and grabbed a bottle from under a desk behind her. I saw the radio.
“Thank you,” I said and paid the woman. I began to open the bottle.
“There have been several accidents this morning …”
Man, this radio is loud.I twisted the cap of the bottle.
“… the explosions have caused many …”I drank some of the water and wiped my mouth with my right hand.
“… that a virus is spreading, but scientists say that it’s nothing serious and that it’s not sure if …”
I put the cap back on the bottle rim and started to twist it back.
“Goodbye!” I left the small shop and headed to McDonalds.
